In October 2009 I received the flu vaccine for the first time. Within days my joints began to hurt, burn, inflame. Being uninsured I hoped this would pass. Unfortunately, the pain & stiffness got much worse until I had know use of my right hand. I went to the ER where they did no testing, made me an appt at the clinic, put me on vicodin and sent me home. Unable to work and barely walk accross my apartment, I was waiting to go to the clinic. Until one day I went to get out of bed and collapsed, I now had no use of my right leg. The pain was so bad I was screaming. I was rushed to a different ER where they admitted me. After testing and doctor evaluation, A rheumotoid doctor diagnosed me with RA due to a raction to the flu shot. He put me on meds and I continued to see him at the clinic every six weeks. Unfortunately, the meds made me so sick to my stomach I had to go off them. Being uninsured my treatments options are limited. My career has been a certified massage therapist since 2002. The RA has has kept me from practicing as a full-time CMT. At the time I was working in a physicians office with doctors & physical therapists. I lost my job and can not take on a new one due to I never know when a flare up will keep me bed ridden let alone perform my tasks. I am developing nodules and suffer in pain every day. I was not aware of the VICP or that any recourse could be taken for vaccine injury. Thank you for taking the time to review my information.

Sincerely,
LS

Emilie,

If your bleeding is consistent please go see another doctor, like a hematologist.

Joe,

Sorry to hear about your daughter. Unfortunately we are not aware of any tests to predict future harm. However, you need to keep a careful eye on her health. Developing fatigue, nerve pain/numbness are all signs of a repeat occurrence. Unlike a lot of people, you are fortunate enough to be aware that your daughter is sensitive to the vaccine.

My daughter was injured by this vaccine after receiving her second shot on 1/3/2011. 3hrs after the injection she was curled in pain on our couch. She has been in chronic pain since, headaches, dizziness, leg pain, pain in knees, nausea, stabbing chest pains. Childrens Hospital in Philadelphia wrote it off as an adverse reaction and said it would pass. We've been working with an ND and homeopathic specialist to detoxify our childs body, however the process is slow, she continues to have daily pain, although some days are better than others.
My question is whether there are specific medical tests that have been identified that people with this injury should be getting so that the severity or possible future severity of this injury can be determined?

What a paternalistic and ignorant article - cancer screening is NOT compulsory, just as men have a say in PSA testing and DRE, we have a say in cancer screening as well.
Pap tests help few women because it's a rare cancer - the lifetime risk in Australia is 0.65% (less than 1%) - this cancer was always rare and in decline before screening started BUT the test is also intrinsically unreliable sending 77% of women for colposcopy (and usually some sort of biopsy) over their lifetime with all the worry, fear and pain that causes and sometimes damage to the cervix caused by unnecessary treatments and biopsies - all to help around 0.45% of women. We know at least a third of women who get cervical cancer have had a recent normal pap test or series of them - false negatives - they may be disadvantaged by the test. All of this fear, worry and harm to healthy women and all with no informed consent.
Young women who choose not to screen are sensible and following the evidence (not the hype) - screening doesn't help women under 30, but exposes them to high risks from false positives. Why does any country screen women under 30?
Taken from "Cervical cancer screening" in "Australian Doctor" 2006 by Assoc Prof Margaret Davy, Director, Gyn-oncology, Royal Adelaide Hospital and Dr Shorne, GP - "No country has ever reported a decline in the incidence of or the mortality from cervical cancer in women under 30, irrespective of cervical screening. Many countries do not perform cervical screening on women under 30".
Finland has the lowest rates of cc in the world and JUST as importantly, sends the fewest women for colposcopy/biopsies - they offer 5 yearly testing from age 30, 5 to 7 tests in total.

As a low risk woman, I rejected cervical screening over 25 years ago - my risk of cc is near zero while screening carried much higher risk from false positives.
All women deserve the truth about cervical and breast cancer screening - this should not be about targets - we're human beings and our health and rights matters - this program harms FAR more than it helps - saving a small number of women could never justify the harm and distress caused to healthy women - the more than 99% who'd never have an issue with this cancer, but screening changes all of that and we're not even asked whether we're happy with that gamble - that legal and ethical right is denied to us.
Not good enough - I'd urge all women to protect their body and health - do your reading and make up your own mind - screen or don't screen or adopt your own screening program - 5 yearly from age 30 reduces the risk of a false positive. It's YOUR decision, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Cervical damage can lead to infertility, miscarriages, high risk pregnancy, premature babies, cervical stenosis (if the cervix is scarred shut and menstrual blood can't escape - this can cause endometriosis and infections and may require a procedure or surgery) more c-sections and psych issues. The most risk is attached to cone biopsies, LEEP and multiple procedures.
See: Dr Joel Sherman's medical privacy under women's privacy issues and in the side bar, see research by Dr Angela Raffle, UK screening expert, R. DeMay, Prof Baum and others.

I also do not approve of our doctors receiving UNDISCLOSED financial incentives from the Govt when they reach screening targets for pap tests - this puts our doctors in a conflict of interest situation and motivates unethical conduct. These incentives exist in the UK, NZ and Australia. I'll never understand why this is considered an acceptable way to treat women. (Financial Incentives legislation) We have a long way to go....

There are lots of documented cases of ITP after Gardasil in the VAERS, Brittany. Another place to find out more about side effects is from SANE VAX...check them out and you will see lots of other possible problems.

I was diagnosed with ITP within weeks of being given Gardasil. I think charges should be brought upon Gardasil as I had no knowledge that ITP could possibly be a side effect. They should be paying me and my fellow ITP sufferers' medical bills!!!
