Severe Allergic Reactions

A severe form of allergic reaction can be caused by vaccines. This severe allergic reaction is commonly referred to as anaphylaxis. If you or a loved one suffered from anaphylaxis shortly after receiving a vaccine contact our vaccine injury lawyers at 1-800-810-3457 or fill out our online form for a free legal consultation.

A severe allergic reaction is likely to happen when more than one dose is required. Anaphylaxis is an severe, whole-body allergic reaction. To develop an allergic reaction, the body’s immune system must first be primed. This priming is called sensitization.  After being exposed to a substance like yeast in the Gardasil vaccine, the person’s immune system becomes sensitized. If you are exposed to the same substance after sensitization, an allergic reaction may occur. This reaction is sudden, severe, and involves the whole body. Tissues in different parts of the body release histamine and other substances. This causes the airways to tighten and leads to other symptoms.

Some drugs (polymyxin, morphine, x-ray dye, and others) may cause an anaphylactic-like reaction (anaphylactoid reaction) when people are first exposed to them. This is usually due to a toxic reaction, rather than the immune system response that occurs with “true” anaphylaxis. The symptoms, risk for complications without treatment, and treatment are the same, however, for both types of reactions.

Vaccines are linked to severe allergic reactions. You can receive compensation for your severe allergic reaction by filing a claim in the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. If you or a loved one suffered a severe allergic reaction shortly after receiving a vaccine contact our vaccine injury lawyers at 1-800-810-3457 or via our online contact form for a free legal consultation.
