The epicenter of the measles outbreak has been reported to come from Eagle Mountain International Church, one of Copeland’s churches in North Texas.
At least 20 people have been infected and one new case was confirmed in southeast Texas according to USA today.
How Severe Are the Measles Symptoms?
Before the measles vaccine was introduced in 1967, about 200,000 people were sick each year in the U.S. According to CDC data, that number has dropped dramatically.
The Texas Department of Health and Human Services issued an alert related to the Eagle mountain outbreak.
Symptoms of the measles include, but are not limited to:
More serious symptoms can range from pneumonia to brain inflammation and death.
Can The Measles Vaccines Cause Autism?
According to the CDC the first dose of the measles vaccine is recommended for children 0-6 years old and the second dose is recommended for adolescents 7- 18 years of age.
Children who do not receive the measles vaccine are susceptible to exposure of the measles. However, many believe that the measles vaccine can be linked to autism, which is why some parents chose not to vaccinate their child.
Some may think the measles vaccine is linked to autism because sometimes signs of autism don’t appear until around the same age range in which the measles vaccine is given. But there is no clear evidence to prove or disprove this theory.
